Beaded and embellished pieces
Dry clean only, and tell them it is hand-beaded before they take it. A standard press will flatten the work.
Store flat or on a padded hanger. A wire hanger will distort the shoulder within a season.
Silk and satin
Dry clean. Do not spot-clean with water — it rings.
Keep out of direct sun. Lagos light will fade an ivory to cream in a few months on a rail by a window.
Aso-oke and woven pieces
Hand wash cold or dry clean. Do not wring.
Iron on the reverse, medium heat, with a cloth between.
Storage
Cotton garment bags, never plastic. Plastic traps humidity and in this climate that means mildew.
Bridal pieces come with a preservation box. Use it.
